Avonia Beach — Trout Run Mouth
The only cam that shows a tributary mouth. Reads the lake shore at Trout Run: surf, plume color, and how many anglers are lined up at dawn. Empty beach = no run yet.
Watch the Avonia CamConditions, stream intel, and tackle picks for Erie’s steelhead run — built on the gauges and cameras, not dock talk. Walnut Creek is home water, so it leads every report.
Snapshot read at 10:52 AM ET from the USGS gauge and the live FishUSA cameras. Conditions change fast — check the cams and gauge before you drive.
The read: low, clear, warm water. The fish that are in are stacked at the creek mouths and the lake shore — the creeks themselves are skinny and spooky. This is not a dawn-trip day on Walnut.
Elk Creek: low & clear — deep holes only. Elk has no gauge of its own; it’s running the same low, clear pattern as the rest of the shore.
Best bet: Saturday Oct 17 on falling water after Friday’s rain. A good soaking lifts Walnut into the prime band, pushes fresh fish in, and the drop back down is when they eat.
Morning gauge read — Wed Oct 14, 2026. Snapshot, not a forecast: flows verified against the USGS Walnut Creek gauge (04213152) and the Avonia / Walnut Access / Lampe Marina cameras.
Three verified live cameras, courtesy of FishUSA. Avonia is the tell — when steelhead stage at the Trout Run mouth, that beach fills at first light.
The only cam that shows a tributary mouth. Reads the lake shore at Trout Run: surf, plume color, and how many anglers are lined up at dawn. Empty beach = no run yet.
Watch the Avonia Cam
Faces the lakefront and launch lot at the Walnut Creek Access in Fairview — not the creek channel. Use it for lake state, weather, and pressure: a full lot at dawn tells its own story.
Watch the Walnut Access Cam
A calm, sheltered look at Erie harbor. Best for wind and weather over the bayfront — when Lampe is glass and the lake cams are rolling, the shore bite is the play.
Watch the Lampe CamDead cams: The Uncle John’s Elk Creek campground cams are gone — the campground has shut down and the feeds were delisted. There is no working camera on Elk Creek and none on Twenty Mile Creek. Elk reads off the Walnut gauge and shop reports until that changes. Still frames above are from the morning of Oct 14, 2026; the Watch buttons open the live feeds.
The four creeks that carry the Erie run, west to east — what each one is, when it fishes, and how it behaves after rain.
The most popular steelhead water in Pennsylvania, and the creek this site leads with. The Manchester Hole is the famous deep pool below the Manchester Road bridge; the Wall at the access is the lakefront casting wall where the fall shore bite happens. Walnut has the USGS gauge, so it’s the one creek you can read to the number before you leave the house.
The largest Erie tributary and the late-season workhorse — bigger, deeper, and slower to clear than Walnut, which makes it the creek to fish when Walnut has already dropped and cleared. No gauge and no live cam anymore, so read it off the Walnut gauge (Elk runs higher and holds color longer) and the shop reports out of Girard and Lake City.
A small nursery tributary at Avonia — the creek itself is nursery water, so the fishing is the lake shore at its mouth, not the creek. Steelhead stage off the mouth in the fall, and the Avonia Beach cam reads it for you: bait in the surf, fish rolling, anglers shoulder-to-shoulder when it’s on.
The far-east option in North East, near the New York line. Smaller and flashier than Walnut — it spikes fast on rain and is usually the first creek fishable again on the drop. No gauge, no cam: check it when Walnut still reads high and dirty, and expect company from anglers who know the same trick.
All sixteen steelhead tributaries, pinned at their lake mouths from Conneaut Creek at the Ohio line to Twentymile Creek at the New York line — plus the Walnut Creek Access and Manchester Hole, Elk Creek Access, and the Avonia Beach mouth of Trout Run (nursery water, closed to fishing). Tap a marker for access notes and the prime-flow band for that creek.
Open the Tributary MapEvery stream in the deep-dive catalog now has a living page: the current USGS flow read against that creek’s own fishable windows, the season playbook and hatch calendar resolved from today’s date, access points, and the full $9.99 deep-dive guide for the water. Ungauged creeks are labeled as such — no verdict is ever invented.

Seasonal breakdowns and technique pieces — written from the same live data as the conditions report, not recycled tips.
October steelheading on the Erie tribs is a conditions game: warm lake water, skinny creeks, and fish staging at the mouths waiting on rain. How to read the early season — where the first fish hold, what the first real rain changes, and how to time the move from the lake shore into Walnut and Elk.
Read the ArticleThe full breakdown of Walnut Creek’s flow bands, rise-and-fall timing after rain, and how Elk and Twenty Mile lag and lead the gauge. In production now — the Guide has the complete numbers today.
