Weather & conditions playbook
The row matching the live flow band is highlighted when the gauge answers.
| Condition | What changes | Tactics | Flies | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| High and off-color (over 1,200 cfs) | The park valley runs brown and pushy for days. | Fish the tributary plumes or wait. The top of the park clears first. | First-drop streamers. | Wait 2-3 days. |
| Prime green (260 - 700) | Full, green, and hatch-friendly - the creek's best self. | Bike the trail; fish every glide tail at the hatch hour. | Season's hatch patterns; pupa first. | Go. |
| Low and clear (under 140) | Slinky park fish; long shadows matter. | Dawn and dusk, fine tippets, emergers over dries. | BWO, midges, small nymphs. | Technical and good. |
| Cold snap | Slow glides, midge water. | Midday, deepest park pools. | Zebra midges, small stones. | Short sessions. |
| Warm rain | Spring's streamer trigger; fall stockers spread on the rise. | Fish the drop's first green day. | Buggers and soft hackles. | Go on the drop. |
| Summer heat (over 68 F in the park) | Even Oil Creek's park reach can stress trout in heat waves. | Thermometer: over 68 F, move to the tributary mouths at dawn or fish bass below Rouseville. | Terrestrials at dawn. | Measure first. |
